MV TIGER SPRING AT KOLKATA/HALDIA

On 23rd November 2010 Containership 'MV Tiger Spring' (10701 DWT) collided with Containership Green Valley at Hoogly River, Kolkata, India. M/V Tiger Spring sustained extensive damage to her starboard hull resulting in the flooding of holds#2 and #3 and adjacent tanks, void spaces and a bunker tank. To prevent sinking M/V 'Tiger Spring' was subsequently beached on the bank of the river outside the channel. SMIT was contacted to render salvage services to the Vessel. With the assistance of local support Vessel, Coromandel Supporter and a Crane barge "Delta Prince" and a Keppel SMIT Tugboat, which was mobilized from Singapore, about 150 tons of bunkers were removed from the double bottom tanks.

Throughout the operation, the deck was manually cleaned from effects of the oil spillage that had occurred at the time of the collision. All 356 containers were discharged and stored ashore to prevent it from doing any damage. The vessel was safely refloated in January 2011.
