MV BINGO – OIL RECOVERY OFF HALDIA

The cargo ship, MV Bingo, sank 20 nautical miles off Sagar Island near West Bengal. The ship, with 19 Chinese and one Indonesian crew member on board, was on its way to China from the Haldia port when Phailin, the cyclonic storm, hit the coasts of Orissa and Andhra on Saturday.

The contract was awarded to SMIT and along with the alliance partner mobilized the team in March 2014. The team boarded the support vessel and recovered about 112 MT oil from the sunken vessel. On completion of the oil recovery operation in mid-April 2014, a Multibeam survey was carried out to ascertain the vessel position and report handed over to the owner.
